Rotating the WiFi Password Without Reprinting QR

Best practice for any place with public WiFi is to rotate the password every 3–6 months. When you rotate, you have to reprint the QR — there is no way to update the password inside a QR code after it is printed. To make this cheaper, consider:

• Print on removable stickers instead of laminating — swap the sticker when the password changes.
• Use a QR frame where the paper slides in — replace only the printed page.
• Set a friendly, easy-to-remember password so you rarely need to change it — 4 random dictionary words joined together is stronger than a random 8-char password and easier to type manually if the QR fails.

WiFi QR Code Not Working — Troubleshooting

• iPhone: nothing happens when I scan — Make sure you are using the Camera app, not a QR scanner app. Also ensure "Scan QR Codes" is enabled in Settings → Camera.
• Android: notification does not appear — Some Android phones need Google Lens active. Long-press the home button and select "Google Lens," then point at the QR.
• Password wrong even though QR is correct — Check the encryption type. If your router uses WPA3, the QR standard sometimes falls back to WPA2 — you may need to enable "mixed" mode on the router.
• Hidden network — If your SSID broadcast is off, the QR must have the Hidden flag enabled. Some phones refuse to auto-connect to hidden networks — user has to add it manually.
